NEW SHARON - Gail L. Stewart, 88, of New Sharon, died Saturday, May 5, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Sharon United Methodist Church, the Rev. Kevin Glesener officiating. Burial: Union Mills Cemetery. Memorials: New Sharon United Methodist Church. Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.
Gail L. Stewart was born Aug. 3, 1912, in Mahaska County to Walter and Clara Corns Whitaker. She was raised in the Rose Hill area and graduated from Rose Hill High School. On Feb. 24, 1930, she married Rex Stewart at the Christian Church in Oskaloosa, They lived and farmed in the Lacey and New Sharon area for most of their lives. Gail was a member of the New Sharon United Methodist Church. She enjoyed flowers, cooking, quilting and needlework, eating out and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Rex, of New Sharon; a son and daughter-in-law: Kenneth and Kay Stewart of Clemons; a daughter and son-in-law: Sherry and Robert Readshaw of Quincy, Ill.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers: Charles and Marvin Whitaker of Oskaloosa; and three sisters: Helen Lieurance of New Sharon, Hazel McBurney of Des Moines and Ilene White of Oskaloosa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Harold Whitaker. (The Oskaloosa Herald, date unknown)
