Maxine Alberta Everman, 90, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, May 6 at Pleasant Park Estates in Oskaloosa. Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Michael Crouch officiating. Burial: Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Visiting hours begin 4 p.m. today at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, with family present 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials: First Christian Church Building Fund or Mahaska Hospice.
Maxine Alberta Everman was born Dec. 15, 1910, in Des Moines, to William Edward and Pearl Kathryn Fleming Barnhill. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1929. On Sept. 23, 1929, she married Wynne Dalton Everman in Newton. He died Oct. 21, 1983. She was a deputy matron for the Mahaska County Sheriff's Office under sheriffs Dwight Mateer and James Harvey. During the 1960s, she and her husband were cottage parents at the State Juvenile Home in Toledo. She was an 80-plus-year member of First Christian Church in Oskaloosa; a 60-year member and past noble grand of Rebekah Lodge No. 16; a member of the American Legion Auxiliary; past president of Whittier PTA; and past member of Mahaska County Historical Society and Keo-Mah Genealogical Society.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Jerry E. and Susan Everman of Topeka, Kan.; a daughter and son-in-law: Kay and Everitt Lester of Oskaloosa; two grandchildren: David B. (and Pam) Lester and Jerri Hupe; a step-granddaughter, Stephani Sehumann; six great-grandchildren: Mitch and Jennifer, Billy, Chakota, Jon and April; and a step-great-grandson, David Paul Sehumann.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers: Harold and Leslie Barnhill.
