Glenn Groenenboom, 85, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, March 10, at his home. His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Central Reformed Chruch in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Don DeGlopper officiating, assisted by Pastor Alvern Boetsma. A family prayer service will be 10:15 a.m. in the west wing of the church. Burial: Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa, with military rites by members of Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. Visiting hours with the family are 6:30 - 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel. Memorials: Central Reformed Church.
Glenn Groenenboom was born Feb. 22, 1916, in Leighton, to Johannes and Nellie DePrenger Groenenboom. He graduated from Lacey High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II, entering in February 1942 and being discharged as a technician 4th class on Jan. 3, 1946. He served in Ardennes, Rhineland and central Europe. On March 7, 1946, he married Viola Kelderman in Oskaloosa. They farmed near Lacey for many years, and moved into Oskaloosa in the early 1980s. He was a member of Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa, and was active in the church men's brotherhood. He was also a member of the Diamond Club.
He is survived by his wife, Viola, of Oskaloosa; a daughter and son-in-law: Lois and Howard Gilchrist of Oskaloosa; two grandchildren: Patrick and Heidi Gilchrist; and a sister-in-law, Henrietta Groenenboom of Oskaloosa. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: J. Edward and Wilbur Greoeneboom. (The Oskaloosa Herald, date unknown)
