Ella Cruzen, 102, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, July 15, at Georgian Court of Oskaloosa. Her funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Dennis Shafer officiating. Burial: Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa. Visiting hours begin 10 a.m. Tuesday, with family present 7:15-8:15 Tuesday at the funeral chapel. Memorials: Imagine The Possibilities (Mahaska Diamond Shelter) or Wright Union Church.
Ella Cruzen was born Aug. 12, 1898, in Madison Township of Mahaska County, to Gerrit and Jenny Waggoner Dykstra. On Jan. 8, 1920, she married Arthur Lester "Hap" Cruzen in Mahaska County. He died May 26, 1962. From 1928 until September 1962, they farmed north of Wright in Mahaska County. She then moved into Wright, where she lived until moving into Oskaloosa in 1985. She was a member of Wright Union Church, and loved to bake and work in her flower gardens.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Jean Curzen of Oskaloosa; three granddaughters, Mary Ann DeJong of Oskaloosa, Marjorie L. Shafer of Tyler, Texas, and Marcia C. Leshe of Sandy, Utah; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceed in death by a son, Clifford Leo Cruzen; a sister Effie Van Weelden; and two brothers: Nick and Cornie Dykstra (The Oskaloosa Herald, unknown)
