Leory H. (Lee) Boston, 87, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, July 9, at Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Michael Crouch officiating. Burial: Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa, with graveside military rites by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. Visiting hours will begin 9 a.m. Wednesday at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, with family present 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials: First Christian Church Building Fund or Mahaska Hospice.
Lee Boston was born Jan. 5, 1914, in Oskaloosa to Frank and Mary Bode Boston. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1933. He then attended John Fletcher College for a year. He moved to Dallas, Texas and worked in an amusement park for the city of Dallas. During World War II he served in the United States Army in the 75th Coast Artillery for four years, two of them in Alaska. On Jan. 4, 1947, he married Bernice Bartlett in Oskaloosa. They lived in Des Moines for a few years and moved back to Oskaloosa in 1950. He operated Boston Coffee House for four years. He later bought and operated Stewart's Show Store in Oskaloosa for 12 years. In retirement he enjoyed camping, and camped during the state fair for many years; he sold tickets at the state fair grandstand for 10 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa, where he sang in the choir for many years. He was a church elder, and recently was elected an elder emeritus. He was a longtime member and past president of Oskaloosa Kiwanis Club and American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice, of Oskaloosa; two nieces, Mary Van Ooyen and Marcella Covey, both of Oskaloosa; and nephew, Frank Brower of St. Ansgar.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Ruth Robertson and Helen Brower; a brother, Ted Boston; and a nephew, John Brower. (The Oskaloosa Herald, date unknown)
