Gilbert E. Main, 89, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, Dec. 29, at Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. His funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Michael Crouch officiating. Burial: Forest Cemetery. Visiting hours are open today at the funeral chapel, with family present 7-8 p.m. today. Memorials: Hospice of Mahaska County or American Cancer Society.
Gilbert Main was born July 23, 1911, in Cedar, to Robert and Caroline Allison Main. He graduated from Cedar High School in 1929, and later attended business school in Des Moines. On March 12, 1933, he married Freda D. Sarvis in Lancaster, Mo. He was a territory sales manager for Sidles and later for Timmerman Co., a wholesale distributor for appliances and RCA televisions. He retired in 1977. He enjoyed sales, and playing golf. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa.
He is survived by his wife, Freda Main of Oskaloosa; a son and daughter-in-law: Donald Robert and Dolores Main of Denver, Iowa; two granddaughters: Darla Main of Watertown, Wis., and Debra VanderLinden and husband Larry of Oskaloosa; four great-grandchildren: Rachel Lynn VanderLinden, and Robert, Joshua and Nathaniel Bertram; and two great-grandchidlren: Joshua and Kirsten Bertram. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Maxine Main. (The Oskaloosa Herald, date unknown)
