Henry J. Meinders, 76, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, February 9, 2008, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. He was born October 13, 1931 in Mahaska County, Iowa, the son of Jacob "Jake" and Bessie Vande Wall Meinders. He graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1949. He worked at the old Edgetowne Dairy in Oskaloosa for many years. On August 14, 1962, he was united in marriage to Joyce Laughlin at Oskaloosa. Henry was a custodian at the Oskaloosa Senior High School for 25 years, working closely with the athletic department and their school events prior to retirement. Henry was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa, and former member of the Y's Men and Oskaloosa Jaycees, and a past board member of the Mahaska County Historical Society. He enjoyed playing cards, and collecting milk bottles and ceramic horses.
His family includes his wife, Joyce Meinders of Oskaloosa; a sister: Sarah Veenstra of Pella; four sisters in law: Ruth Ann Foster of Oskaloosa, Regina Kavanaugh of Kansas City, Kansas, Delta Mae Davis and Kathy McPhail, both of Independence, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother: Clarence Eugene Meinders; and two brothers in law: Wilbur J. Veenstra and Clayton Laughlin.

Funeral services for Henry J. Meinders will be held Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. in the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with the Reverend Dale Visser officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa. There will be a Family Prayer Service at 10:15 a.m. in the fellowship hall in the basement of the church. Visitation will begin at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Tuesday after 10 a.m., and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 5 ? 7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Oskaloosa Senior High School athletic department or to Pella Christian High School.
