MESA, Ariz. - Harold Benson, 85, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Route 5, Oskaloosa died at this home in Mesa, Ariz. Friday, Nov. 7, 1986. He was born April 22, 1901 in What Cheer, the son of George and Anna White Benson.
He married Gladys James on Dec. 9, 1926 in Oskaloosa. He farmed southwest of Oskaloosa for many years and from 1951 until retiring at age 72. He was also a rural mail carrier and plumber during that time.
He is survived by his wife Gladys of Mesa, Ariz.; one son, Carl of West Point; four daughters: Norma (Mrs. W.D.) Behrens of Mesa, Ariz., Mrs. Doris Yates of Torrence, Calif., Darlene (Mrs. Bill) Fisher of Ely, Minn., and Wanda (Mrs. Vernie) Tolles of What Cheer; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard Benson of Spencer; and three sisters: Ellen Hobson, Amity, Oreg., Mildred Haliburton of Tillamook, Ore.; and Lela (Mrs. Homer) DeWitt of New Sharon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one sister.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Newman Funeral Chapel with the Rev. David Troxler officiating. Burial will be in the Sixteen Cemetery north of What Cheer. The family will be at the funeral home Thursday from 7-8 p.m. to greet relatives and friends. (The Oskaloosa Herald, date unknown)
