Funeral services for Beulah Arkema, 75, of Sully, who passed away Sept. 16, were held on Sept. 19 at the Sully Christian Reformed Church in Sully. The Rev. Jack Gray officiated at Linda Laverman was the organist.

Committal services were held at Sully Cemetery in Sully. Casket bearers were her grandsons: Jeremy Van Donselaar, Jerry Fopma, John Walker, Eric Arkema, Bradley Fopma, Cale Fopma, Christopher Arkema, and Kendall Arkema. Honorary casket bearers were her granddaughters: Kari Walker, Kristen Van Donselaar, Rachel Arkema, and Rebecca Arkema, and geat-granddaughters: Courtney and Trishia Van Donsleaar.

Beulah Elizabeth Newendorp was born on December 22, 1927 near Leighton to Walter John and Marie Louise Dorothea Groenendyk Newendorp. Beulah attended the West Weaver Country Grade in Mahaska County and then worked as a nurses aide at the Mercy Hospital in Oskaloosa.

On June 27, 1950 she was united in marriage with Dormand Allen Arkema at the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Leighton where she had made profession of her faith.

In September of 1950, Dormand was re-activated into the U.S. Army and served until his discharge in October of 1951, during which time Beulah made her home with her parents in Leighton. Following his discharge, Beulah and Dormand moved to Sully.Then in 1953 they moved to the farm north of Sully. Beulah and Dormand lived and raised their four children there, Duane Gene, Doyle Verdell, Marla Fay and Michael Dale.

On September 3, Dormand passed away at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Beulah is survived by her children and their spouses: Duane and Mary Arkema of Lynnville; Marla and Carroll Fopma of Sully; and Michael and Denise Arkema of Sully; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. They and their families are: Of her original family, Beulah leaves all her brothers and sisters and their spouses: Wilbur Isaac and Gladys Newendorp, Louise Joan and John Van Woerkom all of Pella; Dorothy Barthea and Dwight Wanders of New Sharon; John Walter and Karen Newendorp of Leighton.

Beulah was preceded in death by her husband, Dormand A. Arkema; her son, Doyle V. Arkema, and her parents: her mother, Marie Newendorp and her father, Walter Newendorp.

For those desiring, memorials may be designated for the Sully Christian Grade School in Sully, Iowa.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.
