R. Neal Rice (1920-2001)

Robert Neal Rice, the son of Fred and Janet Martin Rice, was born on Tuesday, May 11, 1920, at Sigourney, Iowa. He graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1938. Neal farmed around Oskaloosa all of his adult life; on the present farm since March of 1945. He also raised cattle and horses. On December 10, 1944, he was united in marriage to Edith Garner as Oskaloosa. He was the first president of the Oskaloosa chapter of the FFA, and had been, for 21 years, a board member and a past president of the Production Credit Association. Neal and Edith enjoyed ballroom dancing and their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
On Monday morning, January 22, 2001, Neal died at his rural Oskaloosa home at the age of 80 years, 8 months, and 11 days.
He is survived by his wife, Edith of rural Oskaloosa; 2 sons and their wives: Steve (& Leslie) Rice of rural Oskaloosa, and Larry (& Pam) Rice of Michigan City, Mississippi; 6 grandchildren: Adam, David, Ryan, Justin, and Gabriel Rice, and Carrie Taylor; 3 great-grandchildren: Ethan and Leah Rice and Brackin Taylor; 2 sisters: Marie Hibler of Oskaloosa, and Evelyn (& Melvin) Fleming of New Sharon; and a sister-in-law: Florence Rice of Hedrick.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren: Gwendolyn and Larry R. Rice; 2 brothers: Harold F. and Martin Rice; and a sister: Margaret Phillips.
Funeral services will be held at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, Iowa on Wednesday, January 24, 2001, at 1:30 p.m with the Reverend Dwayne Poe of the Church of the Open Bible officiating. Interment will be held at Forest Cemetery Garden of Prayer in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
