James "Jim" C. Sedrel (1906-2001)

James "Jim" Sedrel, 94, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Mahaska Hospital. His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. Pastor Alvern Boetsma of the Good News Chapel officiating. Burials: Forest Cemetery. Visiting hours begin 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral chapel, with family present 6-8 p.m. Friday. Memorials: YMCA Bruce Sedrel Day Camp.

Jim was born Dec. 5, 1906, in Mahaska County to Harmon and Cloe Norwood Sedrel. He attended Burr Oak School and Bussey High School. He married Grace Olive Force on July 17, 1926, in Warren County. Jim worked as a carpenter and contractor for most of his life. He owned and operated Sedrel Construction from 1950 until retiring in 1972. After retirement, he worked as a building inspector for Shady Lodge and Mahaska County Rural Water. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and gardening in his spare time. He was a member of Hillside Bible Church, past lifetime member of the Knights of Pythias and the Carpenters Union, and a past board member of the Mahaska County Care Facility.

He is survived by his wife, Grace, of Oskaloosa; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Bonnie Sedrel of Oskaloosa; a daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Sedrel of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren: Tony Sedrel, Christy Lathrop, Linda Witte, Nancy Harrison, Randy Sedrel and Tim Sedrel; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bruce H. Sedrel in 1994; a brother, Marion Sedrel; and a sister-in-law, Elaine Sedrel. (The Oskaloosa Herald, n.d.)
