Wilbur E. Binns, 82, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at the VA Medical Center in Knoxville. He was born on Saturday, June 26, 1920, at Leighton, Iowa the son of Shirley T. and Alice E. Blakeley Binns. Wilbur served in the United States Army during WW II with the 134th Infantry in the 35th Division, from 1941 until 1945, earned a bronze star, and was honorably discharged due to a medical condition. On April 18, 1943, Wilbur was married to Martha "Grace" Rozenberg at Camp Rucker, Alabama. Prior to the War, he had driven a truck for Carl Hensyel, and after the war, he came back and worked for Carl for a couple of years. They then bought a farm near Spring Valley and farmed there for 10 years. They then moved to an acreage near Evans, and he operated his own trucks from there. He raised purebred Southdown sheep. In 1971 they moved to Oskaloosa, and in 1995 Wilbur retired from trucking. In 1996 they moved to the Shady Lodge apartments. He was a 32-year member of the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa, 4-H Leader, a lifetime member of the Oskaloosa V.F.W. and a member of the American Legion, served on the Mahaska County Extension Office Council, enjoyed fishing, horse racing, and the Chicago Cubs. Wilbur loved his grandchildren.

Wilbur is survived by his wife, Grace of Oskaloosa, 5 daughters: Beverly K. (& Don) Hutchinson, Connie J. (& Steve) Kime, Shirley H. (& Jerry) Kime, Marcia A. Aalsburg, all of Oskaloosa, and Linda S. (& John) Dixon of Olathe, Kansas; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 brother: Raymond (& Juanita) Binns of Oskaloosa.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents: 1 sister: Blanche Johnson, and his parents in law: Henry and Daisy Rozenberg.

Funeral services for Wilbur Binns will be held Friday, July 19, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa, with the Rev. Gil Visser officiating. Honorary casket bearers will be granddaughters: Shari Giudicessi, Angelia Bouslog, Tonja Higgins, and Amy Greer, active casket bearers will be grandsons: Larry Septer, Bryan Kime, Jeff Kime, Jay Kime, Todd Dixon, and Spencer Aalsburg. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 in the west wing of the Church. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Graveside military rites given by members of Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. Posts. Visitation will begin after 10:00 a.m. Thursday and the family will be present Thursday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Central Reformed Church.
