Artie Goodwin, 95, of Oskaloosa, and formerly of Rose Hill, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at the Georgian Court Estates in Oskaloosa.

He was born Sunday, September 15, 1907, at Monroe Township of Mahaska County, Iowa, the son of Harley and Alberta Hensel Goodwin. He graduated from the Rose Hill High School. On June 23, 1938, Artie was united in marriage to Jennie M. Pearce at Queen City, Missouri, and she died January 7, 2000. He farmed near Rose Hill for many years, and also drove a school bus for 16 years. He also was a surveyor in Mahaska County for the ASCS for 40 years.

Artie is survived by a grandson and his wife, Artie Roy and Barbara Showalter of Rose Hill; 2 granddaughters: Jeanne Joy Boyle of Owensboro, Kentucky, and Robin Annetta (& Paul) Morgan of Zanesville, Ohio; 5 great-grandchildren: Zachary Eli and Allison Nicole McMannis, Keith Mason Showalter, Jesse Wayne Boyle, and Brendan Earl Clancy; a son in law: Henry Mason Showalter of Rose Hill; and a sister: Margurite Goodwin-Evans of Lovelock, Nevada.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter: Bonnie Annetta Goodwin Showalter.

Funeral services for Artie Goodwin will be held Saturday, April 19, 2003, at 1:30 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with the Reverend Bill Kolb officiating. Burial will be in the Wymore Cemetery northeast of Oskaloosa. Open visitation will begin Friday after 9 a.m. at the funeral chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5 - 6 Friday evening to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Rose Hill Community Church. (The Oskaloosa Herald, April 17, 2003, page 5A)
