Nita Barnes, 80, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, May 30, at the Siesta Park Manor Retirement Home in Oskaloosa. Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 1, in the First Presbyterian Chruch, Oskaloosa, Rev. John Barkett officiating. Interment: Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa. Visitation is open at the Bates Funeral Chapel. Memorials: Hospice of Mahaska County. Mrs. Barnes was born Feb. 27, 1915, in Kansas. SHe married James Richard Barnes. He died Jan. 25, 1967. She helped her husband as they farmed near Oskaloosa. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Knights of Pythias, Farm Bureau Women, and a life member of the Mahaska County Historical Society. There are no immediate survivors. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Lee Barnes. (The Oskaloosa Herald, June 1, 1995)
