Rev. Max Johnson, 87, of Melcher-Dallas died August 21, 2001 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 24, 2001 at the First Assembly of God Church in Osakloosa. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. on Thursday with the family present from 6 to 8 pm. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Assembly of God missions.
Rev. Max Johsnon was born in Lane, Kansas. Rev. Johnson was ordained into ministry November 29, 1945, but had preached for many years before. He had worked in the oil fields and wheat harvest to raise money for people to start churches. He served 28 years as the Pastor of First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa. He was a traveling Evangelist until moving to Oskaloosa. He was lastly the minister at the Norwood Assembly of God Church. He was involved and enjoyed many things including steam engines, clocks, the outdoors, hunting, dogs, joke telling and he was a musician. He is survived by his wife, Hannah Mae Jihnson [sic] of Melcher-Dallas and many nieces and nephews. (Oskaloosa Herald, n.d.)
