Lee C. Norris, 72, of Fremont, died Thursday, Aug. 9, at Iowa Methodist Medicial Center in Des Moines. His funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Fremont United Methodist Church, the Rev. Todd Holman and Kay Hedge officiating. Burial: Cedar Township Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Visiting hours will begin 10 a.m. Saturday at Frmont Funeral Chapel, with family present 4-6 p.m. Saturday. Memorials: Fremont United Methodist Church or to assist local young pork producers.
Lee C. Norris was born May 23, 1929, in Mahaska County west of Fremont to John and Hazel Norris. He lived in Fremont all his life. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1946. On May 8, 1948, he married Elnora Steele in the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Lee grew up on a grain and livestock farm. Purebred Hampshire hogs have been part of his life since he purchased his first bred sow as a 4-H project in 1944. He has been a prominent Hampshire breeder for a number of years, and a veteran exhibitor at swine shows throughout the Midwest. Many honors have come to the Norris farm for its production of top quality, purebred Hampshires that have attracted worldwide attention. Lee was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fremont and served on the administrative board. He was a longtime member of the Iowa Hampshire Breeders Association and the National Hampshire Breeders Association, and served on the board of directors for each. He was president of the Iowa Hampshire Breeders Association. He was active in County Pork Producers Associations, and was currently district director for the Iowa Pork Producers Association. He was involved in his community as a 4-H leader and a trustee for the Navy Warner and Arganbright Scholarship Trusts. He loved including his family in the hog operation and served as a mentor to young farmers.
He is survived by his wife, Elnora of Fremont; a son and daughter-in-law: Robert and Alishia Norris of Concord, N.C.; two daughters and sons-in-law: Lee Ann and Ronald Failyer of Ottumwa and Judi and Bob Eilerston of Clive; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by parents and his brother, Jay Norris. (THe Oskaloosa Herald, n.d.)
