Barney Hardeman (1923-1998)

Barney Hardeman, the son of Barend and Aaltje Donkelaar Hardeman, was born Thursday, March 29, 1923 in Monroe township of Mahaska County, Iowa. At an early age, Barney made his profession of faith. He served in the United States Army during World War II. On February 17, 1945, he was united in marriage to Marie Van Arendonk at Tyler, Texas. Together they farmed north of Rose Hill for many years, retiring from active farming in 1990. He was a lifelong member of the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa, and had served as a deacon and an elder; and he was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. On Tuesday evening, November 24, 1998, Barney died at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa, Iowa, at the age of 75 years, 7 months, and 26 days. He is survived by his wife, Marie of Rose Hill; a daughter and her husband: Beverly and Don Dop of Oskaloosa; a son and his wife: David and Carol Hardeman of Rose Hill; 3 grandchildren: Thad Hardeman and his wife, Julie; Carrie Hardeman; and Darcie Assink and her husband: Bryce; and a sister in law: Josephine Hardeman of Rose Hill. Barney was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers: Garrett and Dick Hardeman. Funeral Services were held in the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa, Iowa on Friday, November 27, 1998 at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Don DeGlopper presiding. Interment was in Forest Cemetery, Garden of Meditation in Oskaloosa, Iowa, with graveside military rites by the American Legion and V.F. W. This was a Bates Funeral Chapel of Oskaloosa service.
