James Ralph Beach, 82, of rural Oskaloosa died Saturday afternoon, Oct. 27, 1984 at his home. He was born Oct. 31, 1901 in Mahaska County, the son of Joseph Campbell and Bessie Irene Kennedy Beach. On Aug. 9, 1922 he married Bernice Hinkle. He was a farmer and lived on the same farm for 82 years. He was the past grand chancelor of the Knights of Pithius and was a member of the Knights of Pithius drill team. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, a 4-H leader, was with the ASC for 25 years, and was president of the Buckeye Independent School District for 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Bernice of Oskaloosa; two daughters: Mrs. Dorothy Jackson of Rose Hill, and Miss Virginia Beach of Aurora, Colo.; one son, Joe Beach of Cedar Rapids; two sisters: Mrs. Florence Brantingham of Marcellus, Mich., and Mrs. Mildred Russell of Lemon Grove, Calif.; five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one grandson. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Milo Morris officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery under the direction of the Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Heart Fund.
