William George Ashman, Sr., 80, of Oskaloosa died Sunday, Oct. 28, 1984 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. He was born Sept. 15, 1904 near Beacon, the son of William George and Hattie V. Hupp Ashman. He married Ethel B. Foster on June 13, 1927. She died June 18, 1957. He then married Jean Wurster in Des Moines on Aug. 17, 1958. He worked at John Morrell Co. until retiring. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church of Oskaloosa.
He is survived by his wife, Jean of Oskaloosa; four sons, William G., Jr. of Oskaloosa, Robert Lee of Ottumwa, Brice C. of Des Moines, and Gordon W. of Indianola; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Wilda) Current of Indianola; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-granchildren; and three sisters: Mrs. Ima Jean Feeback of Ottumwa, Mrs. Alice Perkins and Mrs. Nellie Walker, both of Beacon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one grandson, Randy Lee Ashman; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. James Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Beacon Cemetery. The family will be at the Fremont Funeral Chapel today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. for visitation. Memorials may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church
