Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 11, 1971, 2 p.m., at the Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon for John Dankert, 85, with Rev. Lois Goodman officiating.

Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery (Highland) of New Sharon.

Mrs. Cletus Fox sang the musical selection "In The Garden" accompanied by Mrs. Glen Boughton.

Flower attendants were Mrs. Charles Lindhorst, Mrs. Walter Van Wyhe, Mrs. Clyde Gorsuch and Mrs. Walter Smith.

Bearers of the casket were William McGriff, Charles Lindhorst, Gerald Bond, Rufus Klinker, Walter Smith, and Clyde Gorsuch.

Honorary bearers were Wayne Stout, John Stout, Archie Stout, Robert L. Reinking, Robert J. Bos, Jr., Sherman Parsons and Delbert Niebuhr.

Mr. Dankert died Wednesday, June 9, at the Tower Park Nursing Home in Oskaloosa. He was born in St. Jacobi Parochie, Friesland, Netherlands, September 12, 1885, to Douwe and Sijtske Dankert.

Later, he served two years in the (Dutch) service and then was married to Martha de Vries and came to Canada in June of 1910, later moving to the New Sharon vicinity in 1911. He also farmed 15 years in South Dakota and then moved back to this vicinity in 1935 to farm. In later years he retired in New Sharon where he spent the rest of his life.

Surviving are his wife, Martha de Vries Dankert; two daughters, Mrs. Marie Stout of Perry and Mrs. Sadie McGriff of Barnes City; one son, Henry Dankert of Colorado Springs, Colorado; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Dave Dankert of Chicago; and one sister, Dorothy Reitsma of The Netherlands.
