Alvie G. McGriff. Funeral services for Alvie G. McGriff were held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 21, 1982 at the Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon.

The Rev. Victor Knowles officiated with interment in the Highland Cemetery, New Sharon.

Serving as casket bearers were: Marvin Bunnell, Clyde Gorsuch, Allen Wheeler, Lester Thompson, Roger Tice, Ivan Klein, and David Longaker.

Flower attendants were Mrs. Maxine Dunnick, Mrs. Marjorie Bunnell, and Mrs. Virginia Bunting.

The musical selection "How Great Thou Art" was furnished by Mrs. Floyd DeBoef and Walter Fagen.

Alvie G. McGriff, 69, of rural Montezuma, died Tuesday, May 18, at Grinnell General Hospital.

He was born September 1, 1912, at Oldham, South Dakota, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Whitehead) McGriff.

He married Sadie Dankert in Newton in 1937. They lived and farmed in Mahaska County for many years. Al loved the soil. He loved the dignity of human labor and upon retirement from farming it wasn't long until he began operating a truck.

Survivors include his wife, Sadie; one sister, Mrs. Maxine Barker, Bellingham, Washington; two brothers, William and Richard, both of New Sharon and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three infant sons, two brothers and two sisters.
