Russell D. Beasley, Sr., 68, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, March. 24, 1996 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Mr. Beasley was born August 8, 1927, in Keokuk County to Earl and Oka Bell Beasley.

He was a graduate of What Cheer High School and served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II.

He married Phyllis Ann Williams February 28, 1949, in Oskaloosa.

He farmed near What Cheer and Gibson and was a machine operator at Vermeer Manufacturing Co. in
Pella for 20 years, before he retired in 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; a daughter and her husband, Shirley and Gordon Childs; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Russell D. Beasley, Jr. and his wife Kathy, and John Beasley; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Earl Beasley and Paul Beasley; four sisters: Irene McKay, Betty Radosevich, Maxine Decker and Mildred White.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Olive McDermott; and three brothers Harold Beasley, Merle Beasley and Jim Beasley.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., March 28 at the Garland-VanArkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, with Rev. Harold Schutte and Rev. Dwayne Poe officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery at Oskaloosa, with Military Honors by the American Legion and VFW.
