Roy was the son of William and Minnie Meppelink Van Heukelom. He was born at Leighton, Iowa on Feb. 10, 1909. On June 7, 1933 he was married to Lucille Van Zuuk at Pleasantville, Iowa. They farmed near New Sharon and also raised Polled Hereford cattle. Roy was an active member of the Oskaloosa Gospel Tabernacle, a member of S.C.O.R.E., Men With Vision, the World Gospel Mission, and served as a winter missionary in Texas and Arizona for 10 years. He was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Oskaloosa chapter of the Salvation Army, and the Farm Bureau. He was a past secretary of the Southeastern Iowa Polled Hereford Association, and was honored by being inducted into the Iowa State and National Polled Hereford Halls of Fame.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille; their daughter and her husband, Joan and Charles LaRue; 4 grandchildren: Scott, Russell, Jeffrey and his wife Robin, and Jennifer LaRue. Also surviving is a sister, Elma Boerefyn and 5 nieces and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, John Boerefyn.
Services were held Tuesday at Oskaloosa Gospel Tabernacle Church, the Rev. Michael Hovda officiating. Burial at Evergreen cemetery near Leighton.
