Richard Owens was born in Llamdloes’ North Wales, on March 14, 1849, and came to Pennsylvania in 1880, when later he moved to Peoria, Ill., and came to Beacon, Iowa, in 1884, where he has since resided.

He was married to Elizabeth Haye in the year of 1869 who preceded him in death 6 years. To this union were born six sons and four daughters, eight of whom are now living to mourn their loss.

Owen Owens, of Hocking, Ia., Richard, Edward, and John, of Beacon, Ia., Sarah Husson, Elizabeth Abram, Thomas Owen, and Osborne Owen, of Colfax, besides two brothers, three sisters and eighteen grandchildren.

He died in Colfax, and the funeral was conducted under the auspices of the U.M.W. of America. Rev. Van der Ploeg, pastor of the Baptist Church of Colfax, officiating.

He was buried from the first Baptist Church of Beacon, July 30th.

The services were conducted by Rev. Byles of the Central University of Pella, and Rev. Lloyd Williams of Oskaloosa. Interment took place in Beacon Cemetery.

He was 62 years 4 months and 14 days old. ~ The Colfax Tribune, Colfax, Iowa 10 Aug 1911.
