Obituary; Oskaloosa Weekly Herald July 1, 1909
William T, Walden was born in Dearborn County Indiana July 8, 1831, being the oldest son of James and Priscilla Walden. His mother died when he was a small boy and his father married again, the family growing up in Indiana. William T. married Lucinda Forbes Oct. 25, 1850 and made their home in the community where they had been raised and there were born to them in the Indiana home the following children James Frank of Crawford County Indiana, William Perry, who died at the age of six, Sarah Margaret who died at the age four, Harriet Lucile who died in infancy, Sam W. of Valley Junction, John F. who died Feb. 22, 1882, Alfred J. of What Cheer, Mrs. Theodosia Forbes of Indianapolis, Indiana, Charles D. of Valley Junction. the family went overland in wagons to Nebraska and after staying there three months came to Iowa and settled near where Alva Hollingsworth home now is on what is known as the Mick farm. after many years of faithful work at his trade as a carpenter Mr. Walden settled in Indianapolis where he has since made his home. he enlisted in Co. E First Regiment of Indiana Calvary Aug. 6, 1861 and was discharged Jan. 1, 1862 and ranked quartermaster sergeant being honorably discharged April 23, 1864. The deceased was a member of the M.E. Church making a profession of religion in Indiana in 1848 and was a faithful member of Indianapolis and Rose Hill circuit at the time of his death. He had always been hearty until the past few months and had been seriously ill during the past seven weeks when the end came. For four weeks he had rested in a chair, not being able to lie down and death received him Friday morning June 25, 1909. The funeral services were held at the Disciples Church in Indianapolis Sunday at 2 p.m. A selected quartet with Miss Ella Kruse furnishing the music and Rev. Lloyd Tennant delivered the sermon from Job 5:26. The Pall bearers were old soldiers.
From the Oskaloosa Daily Herald: Walden: Died of old age and indigestion at his home in Indianapolis at 11 o'clock a.m. Friday June 25, 1909, age 77 years 11 months and 17 days. He was married in Crawford County Indiana and came to Iowa in 1874. He was also survived by and adopted son Leonard Smith.
