L. GELENE WALLACE, 81
L. Gelene Wallace, 81, of New Sharon, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2006 at her home.
Her funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 26, at the Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon with Richard McCulley of the New Sharon First Christian Church officiating. Burial followed at Friends Cemetery in New Sharon. The Harden Funeral Home at New Sharon was in charge of the arrangements.
Lois Gelene Wallace, daughter of B.A. and Ella Cowell Leatherman, was born on May 14, 1924, in New Sharon. She was a 1941 graduate of New Sharon High School, and on Nov. 11, 1942, she was married to Don Shaw in New Sharon. They would later divorce. Gelene had worked for the Continental Overall Factory in Oskaloosa, several different insurance and gas companies, had worked at the Wellman Savings Bank, as an implement company bookkeeper, and at the New Sharon Library. On March 22, of 1967, Gelene was united in marriage to Charles G. "Gib" Wallace at the New Sharon United Methodist Church. She had lived in What Cheer, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Spencer, New London and Toledo Bend, Texas, before returning to New Sharon in 1987. Gelene was a member of the New Sharon First Christian Church and Loyal Daughters, New Sharon Congregate Meals and a former board member of Stewart Cemetery. She enjoyed traveling, flowers, photography and was an avid reader.
She is survived by her husband, Charles "Gib" Wallace of New Sharon; a son, Dana Wallace of Westminster, Colo.; two grandchildren, Brian and David Wallace; two great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Delaney; a sister, Arlene Stilwell of New Sharon; a brother-in-law, Alfred Fisk of rural New Sharon; three nephews, Dan and Ben Fisk and Gary Leatherman; a great-niece, Linda VanOmmen; and two great-nephews, Dale and Dennis Moore.
Gelene was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Memorials in her name may be made to the New Sharon First Christian Church.
