Louis Mayo, 75, OskaloosaLouis Arthur Mayo was born Dec. 5, 1934 to Herbert Nathan and Ida Grace (Chilton) Mayo in Canova, S.D.
After his mother's death in 1936, he made his home near Eddyville with his grandmother Jessie Chilton and uncles and aunt, Joe, Ward and Emma Chilton.
He resided on the family farm for many years, eventually moving to Oskaloosa.
Most recently he resided at Hillside Apartments. He attended New Hope Free Methodist Church.
After a short illness, he passed away on Dec. 1, 2010, at the Serenity Hospice House of Oskaloosa.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel in Eddyville. A private burial will follow at a later time.
Visitation will also be held on Friday from 10 a.m. until service time at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Serenity Hospice House, 630 N. 12th St., Oskaloosa, IA 52577.
Surviving are two brothers, Calvin of Blakesburg and Malcom (Helen) of Brooklyn; several cousins, nieces, nephews and a special caregiver, Kathy Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents: two sisters, Helen Talley and Beth Parker; and two sisters-in-law.
