LEIGHTON - Funeral services for Jeanette Vander Wal Ver Meer, 76, a longtime resident of Leighton, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at the Leighton Christian Reformed Church.

The Rev. David Stevenson will conduct services.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Leighton.

Memorials to the World Home Bible League will be accepted

Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ver Meer died Tuesday.

Survivors are her husband, Anthony; two sons and daughters-in-law, Owen and Esther of Leighton and Eugene and Sandra of Littleton, Colo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and James Van Engelenhoven of Leighton; and six grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, Cornie Vander Wal, and a sister, Wilma Vander Wal.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Mrs. Ver Meer was a member of Leighton Christian Reformed Church.

The daughter of Cornelius and Alberdina Van Maaren Vander Wal, she was born July 31, 1918 on the farm of her parents near Pella.

She taught in rural schools for several years prior to her marriage to Anthony Ver Meer May 17, 1939 at the home of her parents.

They farmed west of Leighton for 26 years, moving to Leighton in 1965. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, November 1994
