Daniel Reid Obermire
1970 - 2007

Daniel Reid Obermire, 36, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, of injuries received in an automobile accident.

He was born Dec. 7, 1970, at Fort Belvoir, Va., the son of Joseph and Marilyn Binns Obermire. He graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1989. During college Dan moved to Newark, N.J., and worked as a nanny. He returned to Oskaloosa and finished his Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education in 1994. He later earned his Master's in Educational Administration from Northwest Missouri State in 2003.

Following school he worked as a substitute teacher in the Oskaloosa Community Schools, and worked as a t-ball coach and the swim team coach at the YMCA. On Nov. 29, 1997, he was united in marriage to Tonya Ewen at the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa. Dan's first full time teaching position was at Clarke of Osceola where he taught 5th grade and coached junior high volleyball and baseball from 1996 - 2000. In 2000 he moved back to Oskaloosa to teach 6th grade, first at Webster Elementary, and was currently teaching Language Arts at the Oskaloosa Middle School. In 2002 Dan was recognized by Wal-Mart as Oskaloosa's Teacher of the Year. Dan was a member of the Central United Methodist where he was active in youth ministry, Webb Lodge #182 of the Masons in Sigourney, National Wild Turkey Federation, Oskaloosa Education Association, and he was currently serving on the Oskaloosa Public Library Board.

He enjoyed spending time in the out of doors, was an avid hunter, and enjoyed fishing (especially for trout). He was a true Nebraska Cornhusker fan. He especially delighted in spending time with his family.

His family includes his wife, Tonya Obermire of Oskaloosa, two children: Elise(8) and Ethan(5) Obermire both at home in Oskaloosa; his parents: Joseph and Marilyn Obermire of Oskaloosa; a brother: Michael (Ang) Obermire of Lavista, Neb.; a sister: Susan (Nathan) Rosengren of Missouri Valley; his parents-in-law: Don and Carolyn Ewen of Rockford; a sister- in-law: Jessie (Jason) Reicks of Rockford,; a brother-in-law: Cole Ewen of Troy, Mo.; his grandparents-in-law: Boyd and Louise Burnett of Rudd; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Bennie and Mabel Binns, and his paternal grandparents: Gus and Viola Obermire.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at 6 p.m. in the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa with Reverends Robert Dean and Robert Morris Officiating. According to Dan's wishes his body has been cremated. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorials to be made out to the Central United Methodist Church or the Oskaloosa Middle School.
