William [Werewich?] Holmes

HOLMES, DELONG

I'm trying to trace the ancestry of William Werewich Holmes, b. Penn. Dec. 1801, d. Madison Co., 17 Jan. 1872; m. Elizabeth Delong, 15 July 1830, Tuscarawas Co., Ohio.

Puzzle: His middle name is variously given as Werewich, Wirewick, and Weirman. And although he's listed as William Werewich Holmes, that middle name does not in fact appear on Census records or on his tombstone. Does anyone know what evidence we have for it?

Another puzzle. His family of origin has been given as 1) Jacob Holmes and Elizabeth Huff, early eastern Ohio settlers; or 2) or Isaac Holmes and Priscilla Wierman/Weirman, from Adams Co., PA. Does anyone have evidence of either connection? Thanks!
