Death of Mrs. Anna Cook

The people of Winterset and Madison county were shocked to hear of the death of Mrs. Anna Cook, of this town, early Monday morning October 29th. She had been at the home of Dr. Fannie S. Parks, for the past two weeks, but it was not thought that her condition was alarming.

Mrs. Cook was 69 years of age and had resided in Winterset since 1864, when she had come here with her parents, Gideon and Ruth McKibben. The deceased was born in Pike county, Ohio, May 10th, 1859, but came here when she was a girl five years of age. She was united in marriage to Arthur I. Cook, November 13, 1879 and five children were born to this union. Mr. Cook and son, John, having preceeded the mother in death. She is survived by three sons, Gideon and Ralph, of Des Moines, and Arthur of Earlham, and one daughter, Mrs. Arthur Frey, of Earlham. She also leaves three grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Mary Rishir of Macksburg.

The Woman's Relief Corps was one of the organizations which claimed Mrs. Cook as one of their active members. She united with the Presbyterian church here February 12, 1893, and she took part in the work of the Missionary societies and Social Circle until her death.

The Rev. Paul M. Fowler conducted the services at Tidrick's funeral home, Wednesday afternoon, October 31st, at 2 o'clock and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery. The Woman's Relief Corps assisted with the funeral services.

Mrs. Anna Cook

Anna Ruth McKibban, daughter of Gideon and Ruth McKibban, was born in Pike county, Ohio, May 10, 1859. She came with her parents to Winterset in 1864, where she has since resided. She was united in marriage to Arthur L. Cook, November 13, 1879. To this union were born five children, Ralph E. and Gideon W. of Des Moines; Arthur M. and Marcia M. of Earlham, and John, who preceded his mother in death, January 16, 1902. Her husband, Arthur L. Cook, died September 9, 1908.

Mrs. Cook united with the First Presbyterian church of Winterset, February 12, 1893, where she was a faithful member in the church, Missionary society and Social Circle until her death, Monday morning, October 29th, 1928. She was an active member of the Woman's Relief Corps, always ready and willing to do her share of patriotic work.

She leaves to mourn her loss three sons, one daughter, two daughters-in-law, three grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Mary Bishir, of Macksburg, and other relatives, besides a host of friends.
