Mortuary

William H. Edwards was born in Bureau county, Illinois, February 5, 1847, and died at his late home December 29, 1928, aged 81 years, 10 months and 19 days.

He was the second son of a family of 13 sons and daughters. Seven of his brothers and sisters have preceded him in death.

On September 7, 1869 Mr. Edwards and Miss Elizabeth Gibson, of Sheffield, Illinois, were united in marriage in that town, living together in faithful, happy union, bearing together the joys and sorrows incident to life, for more than 69 yeras. In the late fall of 1869 they left their Illinois home and located in Marion county, Iowa, near Knoxville, remaining there about five years, removing to Kasson, Madison county, from where they moved to the present homestead, 34 years ago.

To Mrs. and Mrs. Edwards were born seven children, Gaylord, Marion, Earl, Lura, Fred, Jay and Linnie, two of whom, Fred and Lura, preceded him in death. There remains to mourn his departure, his aged and beloved wife, five children, 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild, three brothers and two sisters, with many nephews and nieces and a wide circle of friends.

Mr. Edwards belonged to that rapidly, all too rapidly, diminishing company of men and women of heroic, pioneer type and spirit that have made this great state and nation, laying their foundation in self sacrificing industry, economy and integrity. He belonged to that earnest class of men, who in his active years, busy in making a home for himself and family, believe that all the great God and Father of us all expected or could expect of His children was that a man live an honest and industrious life, faithful to all his obligations as husband, father and citizen.
