Donna Bass, Aged 17 Died Early Wednesday

Donna Bass, 17 year-old daughter of Mrs. Marjorie Bass of Winterset, died this Wednesday morning, Nov. 9, at Memorial hospital in Winterset.

Miss Bass was a Winterset high school student when stricken suddenly about seven months ago, with a fatal illness. She was a member of the junior class at that time.

She is survived by her mother, two sisters, Rita Hood and Karen Jackson, and a brother, Mike.

Rosary services will be Friday at 8:15 p.m. from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, and requiem mass Saturday at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Catholic church here.

Requiem Mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for 17-Year-Old Girl

Requiem Mass was held Saturday from St. Joseph’s Catholic church of Winterset for Donna Rae Bass, 17-year-old Winterset high school student, whose death occurred Wednesday, Nov. 9th at Memorial hospital, after an illness of about seven months.

Rosary services were held Friday evening from the Collins Funeral home here. Msgr. John W. Higgins, pastor of ST. Joseph’s church led the recitation of the rosary and conducted the funeral Mass. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Miss Bass was a daughter of William M. and Marjorie Compton Bass. She was born in Des Moines, Aug. 28, 1949, but her life had been spent at Winterset.

At the time she was stricken with illness, she was a junior student at Winterset high school, where she was active in the Y-Teen and F.H.A., and sang with the mixed chorus. She was a life-time member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church here.

She was preceded in death by her father, on Jan. 9, 1958. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Marjorie Bass of Winterset; two sisters, Mrs. Dick Jackson of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Gary Hood of Winterset; and a brother, Mike Bass, at home.
