JANE DELONG MCNELEY

Jane Delong, daughter of Margaret and Solomon Delong was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, June 11, 1822, and died Feb. 19, 1913 at the home of her son, E. E. McNeley in Des Moines.

She was united in marriage with Jas. McNeley in 1840. To them ten children were born, four of whom with her husband, preceded her to the better world, five sons and one daughter all of whom were present in her last illness, remain to mourn their loss. They are S. J. and J. F. McNeley of Winterset; M.M., J.H. and E.E. McNeley of Des Moines and Mrs. Mary Houlette of Warrensburg, Mo. Also a number of grand, great and great great grandchildren and a host of friends.

She with her husband, came from Ohio to Iowa in 1853 and settled in Ohio township, Madison county, where they lived continuously until 1873, when they moved to Winterset, Iowa. She was converted in early life and was a member of the first church organized in Ohio township. She had been a member of the First Christian church in Winterset for over 40 years. Although past 90 years old, all her faculties remained normal unil almost the last. She was always cheerful in her disposition and many a lonely traveler through life has had his gloom turned into brightness because of coming in touch with such a warm heart.

The funeral services were held from the Christian church Thursday, Feb. 20th, at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. A. C. Grafton, the pastor, in the presence of a large concourse of relatives and friends. The body was laid to rest in the Rock City cemetery.
