MRS. M. BREEN DIED MONDAY

Death Follows Extended Period of Failing Health

Mrs. Mike Breen, member of a well-known Madison county family died at Memorial hospital in Winterset Monday, Nov. 7, after an extended period of failing health. She was 75 years of age.

Mrs. Breen was the former Margaret Johnson, daughter of Bernard and Katherine Ryan Johnson. She was born Feb. 11, 1885. in Bevington, where her father was engaged in the lumber business. She was a life-long resident of Madison county.

She was married at Churchville on April 10, 1910 to Mike Breen. They moved to Winterset in 1920, and this community had been her home for the last 40 years. Mr. Breen died in 1952.

Mrs. Breen was active for many years in church and school work here. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church, and was active in the Altar society, of which she was a past president. She was also a past president of the North Ward Parent-Teacher association.

She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Peter J. Cunningham of Winterset, Mrs. John Nolan of Guthrie Center, and Mrs. Charles A. Beeler of Winterset; three sons, John Breen of Winterset, Robert Breen of Des Moines, and Raymond Breen of Houston, Tex.; 23 grandchildren; and three brothers, Joseph A. Johnson of Des Moines, William L. Johnson of Des Moines and Thomas F. Johnson of Los Angeles.

Rosary services for Mrs. Breen were held Tuesday evening from the Richards Funeral home. Funeral services, with requiem high Mass, were held Wednesday morning from St. Joseph;s Catholic church, with the pastor, the V. Rev. Msgr. John W. Higgins, officiating. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
