W. V. Shields

William Van Buren Shields was the son of Credo and Mariah W. Shields and was born at Aquaqua, Illinois, November 22, 1862. He died at his home in Jackson township, April 30, 1931, aged 68 years, five months and eight days.

When a lad he came to Madison county with his parents. They later emigrated to Kansas and remained for a few years, but returned to Jackson township and to the farm which was his home for 44 years. After his father's death 22 years ago he made his home with his mother until her death on December 2, 1928.

His health has not been rugged for some time and his nephew, Ed. Estell and family have made their home with him since March first. An infection in his foot brought his life to its sudden close. His only sister, Mrs. Eva Estell, preceded him in death by 14 years. The only surviving relatives are her children, Mrs. James Wilcox, Edward, Ray, and Crede Estell and their families.

The funeral was held in the Webster church in charge of Rev. W. C. Porter of the Pitzer United Presbyterian church. Burial was made beside the bodies of his parents and sister in Webster cemetery.
