Pioneer Resident Dies At Webster

Mrs. Maggie Roberts Passes at Advanced Age of 83 Years

Mrs. Maggie Roberts, last surviving member of a pioneer family in the Webster community, died at her home in Webster Monday at the age of 83 years.

Mrs. Roberts, the former Maggie Ann Weaver, daughter of Sebastian and Lanina Weaver, and was born Feb. 15, 1858, in Pittsburgh, Pa. She came to Adair county at the age of 11 years, where she resided until 1903. She then moved to Madison county, which had since been her home.

She was married to James Arthur Roberts on March 17, 1880. He died in 1909.

Mrs. Roberts was the mother of five children. A son, Frankie, and a daughter, Lillie May, preceded the mother in death. She is survived by three sons, Earnest Ray Roberts, Clarence Elmer Roberts, and James Alva Roberts, all of Winteset; and six grandchildren, two of whom, Helen and Dorothy Roberts, she reared in her home after the death of their mother.

Funeral services were held Wednesday from the Webster church in charge of the Rev. A. R. Weed of Carl, and burial was made in the Roberts cemetery.

Mrs. Maggie Roberts

Maggie Ann Roberts, daughter of Sebastian and Lanina Weaver, was born February 15th, 1858, at Pittsburg, Pa, and passed away at her home July 28, 1941, at the age of 83 years, 5 months, and 13 days.

She came to Adair county at the age of 11 years, where she resided until 1903 when she came to Madison county, which had since been her home.

She was united in marriage to James Arthur Roberts, March 17, 1880, who preceded her in death May 8, 1909. To this union were born five children: Lillie May, Earnest Ray, Frankie Sebastian, Clarence Elmer and James Alva, all of Winterset, Ia.

Two children preceded her in death, Frankie, Nov. 17, 1895, and Lillie May, March 10, 1932.

After Lillie's death she had the sole custody of her two granddaughters, Helen Lanina and Dorothy Jean Roberts, daughters of James Alva.

She was a kind and loving mother and grandmother, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.

She was a member of the Methodist church, although her health would not permit her to attend church in later years.

She is the last of a pioneer family. Besides her three children, six grandchildren, and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Clara Weaver of Adair county, she leaves a host of relatives and friends to mourn her death. She will be greatly missed by her neighbors and friends.
