Funeral services were held Saturday from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset for Edgar H. Carey, who died last Wednesday, Sept. 11,1963, at his home near St. Charles. The Rev. Howard Cho of St. Charles conducted the services. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery, with military honors by Green-Rogers post of the American Legion.

Mr. Carey was 69 years of age at his death. He was born at Jewell on March 18, 1894, a son of L. O. and Emma Clearwater Carey. Most of his early life was spent in Winterset, where his father was engaged in the grocery business.

During World War I he served in the U. S. armed services. In 1920 he was married to Marie Leach of Winterset. They moved to the farm near St. Charles in 1936.

Several years later, they moved to Ogden, Utah, where he was employed for 16 years as a security guard at the U. S. naval base there. They returned to the farm near St. Charles in 1957.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Marie Carey; three sons, Philip and Luther R. Carey of Des Moines and Paul Carey of Ogden, Utah; two daughters, Mrs. Gerald Speicher of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Mrs. Dale Johnson of Minot, North Dakota; 15 grandchildren; and a brother, Walter L. Carey of Winterset.
