WALTER CAREY Dies at Age 87

Walter Lyman Carey, a longtime resident and farmer of Madison County, died at the Villa West Care Center here last Friday, October 18, 1974. He was 87 years of age.

Mr. Carey was born at Jewell, Iowa, on February 6, 1887, the son of Lyman O. and Emma Clearwater Carey.

A veteran of World War I, Mr. Carey had resided in Madison County for the past 71 years. He retired from farming in 1954.

He was affiliated with the Methodist Church.

Mr. Carey is survived by two sisters-in-law, Olive Irene Carey of Winterset and Marie M. Carey of St. Charles, as well as eight nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and one sister.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 21 at the Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with the Rev. Paul Bousfield officiating. Burial, with military graveside services by the American Legion, was in the Winterset Cemetery.
