David A. Pickar, 71, of Winterset died Jan. 23, 2006, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset with military rites performed by American Legion Post 184 and VFW Post 8142, both of Winterset.

Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at the funeral home with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Cremation will follow the service, with burial of the cremated remains to be held at a later date at Winterset Cemetery.

Dave Pickar was born March 16, 1934, in Wadena, Minn., to Paul Martin and Daisy May (Spore) Pickar. As a young man, he served in the United States Army during the Korean Police Action. His marriage to Janette Marie Banks took place Dec. 28, 1956, at the Christian Church in St. Charles. Dave worked as a well driller for Ro-Banks Well Company for 28 years. He also had worked as a carpenter and farmer. He was a member of the Water Well Association and Auction and Flea Market Circle.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Gordon Pickar, and a sister, Carol Ann Manning.

He is survived by his wife, Janette, of Winterset; two daughters, Becky Lynn Conner and Linda Lea Barker, both of Winterset; five brothers, Edwin Pickar of Woodbury, Minn., Frances Pickar of Minneapolis, Minn., Dale Pickar of Moorhead, Minn., Jimmy Pickar of Redfield, S.D. and Darrell Pickar of Warringhu, England; four sisters, Rita Johnson of Mound, Minn., Helen Hovland of Hopkins, Minn., Betty Dailey of Lake Charles, La., and Rose Bassett of Indiana; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
