Wednesday, February 15, 2006Katherine Irene (Buse) Scar, 77, a long-time rural Earlham resident, died Feb. 8, 2006, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, Feb. 15) at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter with the Rev. Luke Zimmerman officiating. Burial was at Penn Center Cemetery ion rural Earlham.
Katherine Scar was born May 17, 1928, in Calhoun County and raised by her mother, Margaretha Buse, and stepfather, Frank Tegels. She attended country school in the Ulmer area. She was baptized Aug. 31, 1928, at her grandmother’s home near Ulmer and confirmed May 25, 1941. As a young woman, she worked as a nanny for two families in Des Moines. Her marriage to Norman Scar took place March 12, 1952, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Katharine and her husband farmed southwest of Earlham from 1952 until 2006. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies’ Aid and teaching Vacation Bible School.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Dennis Tegels; and a sister Edna Meyer.
She is survived by two daughters, Doris Olson and Elaine Harper, both of Des Moines; two sons, Dwayne Scar and Daryl Scar, both of Earlham; a sister Elva Kohtz of Kentwood, Mich.; two brothers, Arvel Tegels of Eau Claire, Wis., and Robert Tegels of Lake View; and eight grandchildren and three great0grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter, Earlham and Redfield.
