Mabel Fern McKee 93, of Winterset died of congestive heart failure June 1, 2000, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 6, at Macksburg United Methodist Church with Pastors Neil Platon and Don Frank officiating. Burial was at Moon Cemetery, Grand River, township, Macksburg, with graveside services performed by members of the J. D. Craven 322 Women's Relief Corps in Macksburg.
Mabel McKee was born June 25, 1906 in Madison County to Charles M. and Anna Jane (Addington) Thomas. She graduated from Macksburg High School in 1923. She married Gerald E. McKee on July 2, 1924 in Creston. A homemaker, Mabel has resided in Winterset since 1982 and in Madison County for most of her life. She was a member of the J.D. Craven 322 Women's Relief Corps; Macksburg United Methodist Women; and Macksburg United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, two brothers, a grandson and two great-grandsons.
She is survived by five sons, Lyman McKee (wife Lola) of Payson, Ariz. William McKee (wife Inez) of Mesa, Ariz. Roger McKee (wife Donna) of Altoona, Melvin McKee (wife Dorie) of Wayzata, Minn., and Larry McKee (wife Ivy) of Taipei, Taiwan. five daughters Lucile Brown (husband Arthur) of Patterson, Maxine Anderson (husband E. R.) of Dayton, Ohio, Afada Silverthorn (husband Dwight) of Mesa, Ariz. Iola Chickering (husband Marvin) of Algona and Carlotta Wilcox (husband Kenneth) of Ogallala, Neb.; 34 grandchildren; numerous step grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
