WINIFRED MACUMBER

Winifred Leone Macumber, 93, of the Indianola Good Samaritan Center died March 12, 2001 of respiratory complications.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 15, at Peterson Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial will be at Clark Cemetery, Monroe township, Madison County.

Winifred Macumber was born Nov. 15, 1907, to William E. and Ella R. Macumber of Lorimor. She spent her early life on a farm southwest of Winterset.

A 1925 graduate of Indianola High School, she graduated in 1929 from William Penn College in Oskaloosa with a B.A degree and major in home economics. She continued graduate work at Iowa State University in Ames. She had been, during her career, a teacher, principal and home economist. She was Warren county's first county extension home economist, serving from 1936-45. During that time, she also was the state president (of county extension home economists).

Winifred also was involved with various aspects of the Christian Union and Dial-A-Friend ministry. She was a member and past elder of New Hope Christian Union Church and served on several boards of the General Council of the Christian Union and served on the Tri State Youth Camp Board.

Indianola

Winfred L. Macumber, 93, of Indianola died of a respiratory ailment Monday at Indianola Good Samaritan Center there. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Peterson Funeral Home in Indianola, with burial at Clarke Cemetery near Winterset.

Miss Macumber was born in Lorimor and had lived in the Winterset area before moving to Indianola several years ago. She had been a high school teacher at Woodburn, Principal at Liberty Center and county extension home economist in Worth, Winnebago and Warren counties. She was member of New Hope Christian Union Church near Winterset and had served on the executive board, publication board and Christian Union Women’s Fellowships boards of the general council of The Christian Union.

There are no immediate survivors.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in Indianola.
