Leland A. Saum, a Winterset resident for 34 years, died this Wednesday July 10, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. Mr. Saum was 69 years of age, and had been in failing health for several years.
A native of Edgar, Nebr., where he was born Oct. 10, 1893, he was the son of John A. and Iona (Morse) Saum.
He served in the U.S. Armed forces during World War I and was a member of the American Legion. He was affiliated with the Christian church. He engaged in trucking in this community for many years.
Surviving are his wife, the former Florence Anderson; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Jones of Winterset; two step sons, Robert Anderson of Des Moines and John Anderson of Alexandria, Va., 10 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Roy Wagner of Frostproof, Flz.; Mrs. Faye Milner of Santa Monica, Calif.; and two brothers, Jack Saum of Marshalltown and Boyd Saum of Oakland, Calif.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from the Wilson Funeral home here in charge of the Rev. Robert Owens, pastor of the First Christian church of Winterset. Burial will be made in the Panora cemetery.
