Dr. Herbert Donald Saveraid, 69, of Winterset died of cancer July 17, 2001, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Funeral services were held Saturday July 21 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset with Pastor Steve Koch officiating. Burial was at the Palestine Lutheran Church Cemetery in Huxley.
Dr. Saveraid was born Aug. 15, 1931 in Story City to J. O. and Eva (Satterlee) Saveraid. He grew up in Story County. On Aug. 8, 1949 he married Lorrie Rullestad in Huxley. After completing his veterinary studies at Iowa State University, Dr. Saveraid practiced in Earlham, Adel and Norwalk until his retirement in 1996. He had resided in Winterset since 1996. He was a member of the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association, American Quarter Horse Association, Iowa State Alumni Association and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter.
He is survived by his wife, Lorrie, of Winterset; two sons, H. Lee Saveraid of Winterset and Craig (wife Marta) of DeSoto; a daughter, Susan Gill (husband Bob) of Clive; three brothers, Kenneth Saveraid of Cushing, Minn., Paul Saveraid of Cambridge and Arthur Saveraid of Huxley; a sister, Janet Roberts of Oceanside, Calif; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandsons.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.
