ELSIE B. CLAGUE SAWYERS

Elsie B. Sawyers, 82, of Winterset, died May 16, 1995 of stroke complications at the Community Care Center of Winterset. Funeral services were May 19 at the First Christian Church in Winterset. The Rev. Bobby Dickerson officiated the services and burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

She was born July 8, 1912 in Madison County to Willis E. and Bernice (Knox) Clague. She married Clare Sawyers on June 16, 1937 in Madison County. She was a retired school teacher and a lifetime resident of Madison County. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Winterset. She was a graduate of Drake University and had taught in rural schools from 1930-1947 and taught in the Winterset School system from 1947 through 1976.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and one brother.

Surviving relatives include two sister-in-laws, Mary Clague and Katherine Sawyers, both of Winterset; and several nieces and nephews.
