June 7, 1995Francis Harold Mapes, 86, of Winterset, died June 1995 at the Community Care Center in Winterset. Funeral services were June 5 at the Early Chapel Christian Church in rural Earlham with the Rev. David Clark officiating. Burial was at the Dexter Cemetery.
He was born in rural Dallas County on June 11, 1909, to Harold Vane and Lavinia R. (Jones) Mapes. He married Lucille (Applegate) Mapes on May 20, 1936. He was a retired farmer and was a lifetime resident of Madison County. He was a member of the Early Chapel Christian Church and the Madison County Farm Bureau.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son; two sisters; and one brother.
Surviving relatives include one daughter, Nyla Mapes of Minneapolis, Minn., two sons, Merlin of Brighton, Mich., and Doyle of Earlham; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson
