Mildred F. Mapes, 87, died of complications following a stroke July 7, 1998, at Integrated Health Services in Winterset.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, at Winterset Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Mary Pope officiating. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 8 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.

Mildred Mapes was born July 24, 1910, in Hanley in Madison county to Warren L. and Ethel (Fenimore) Stevens. She married Dick Mapes Feb. 1, 1947. Mildred was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Winterset; the Order of Eastern Star (of which she was a Past Matron), a lifetime member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and a former member of the Madison Antique Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, two brothers and one granddaughter.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Nancy Mapes of Dallas, Texas and Shirley Parkins of Winterset; two sons, Richard Greenwood (wife Jean Ann) of Iowa City and Charles Greenwood (wife John Roberts) of Des Moines; 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
