James Willard Poland, who had a partnership in Poland-Griffith Oil Company in Winterset, died last Wednesday at Crosslake, Minnesota of a heart attack, at his wife's cousin's home.

Mr. Poland was born the son of James E. and Margaret M. Poland at Winterset on February 7, 1911. He was married to Eleanor Jackson on Christmas Day, 1935, in Des Moines.

Mr. Poland graduated from Winterset High School in 1929. He then worked for Alf Danforth in a grocery store and later formed a partnership with him in the real estate business. In 1934 he went into the oil business and formed a partnership with Paul Griffith in the Poland-Griffith Oil Company in 1942 where he worked until his retirement in 1964.

Mr. Poland was affiliated with the Methodist Church and was a member of the Winterset Fire Department from 1941 until 1953.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, his children, James Poland of Pineville, Missouri, Mrs. Kenneth Hanzik of Marion, Iowa and Richard Poland of Allen, Texas; his sister, Mrs. Ione Hann of Des Moines and eight grandchildren.

Mr. Poland was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Victor and Curtis Poland.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset conducted by Rev. Newton Coughenour. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.
