Velma E. Harpole Thomas died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1981, at her Macksburg home. She was 62 years old.
Born on July 26, 1919, she was the daughter of Alfred Fonso Harpole and Flora May Welty.
On Jan. 16, 1937, she married Laurence Merle "Bill" Thomas in Maryville, Mo. Mr. Thomas died in 1977.
A homemaker, she spent her entire life in Madison county. She was a member of Rebecca Lodge and Women's Relief Corps and attended Macksburg United Methodist Church.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Laurence; parents; three brothers, Arch, Raymond and Alfred Harpole; and sister Jana May Jessup.
Survivors include two sons, Philip D. Thomas of Bloomington Minn. and Kenneth P. Thomas of Macksburg; a daughter, Jean Winebrenner of Peru; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sat., Sept. 19, at Macksburg United Methodist Church, Rev. Robert Wood officiating. Burial was at Moon Cemetery.
